Making knocking on doors a little more thoughtful.
It starts the same way almost every time: the doorbell rings. The dog goes berserk. You're mid-dinner, mid-nap, mid-workday, or just mid-something — and now you're standing at your own front door, negotiating your way out of a conversation you never asked to have.
Door-to-door solicitation isn't going away. For a lot of legitimate businesses and organizations — solar installers, security companies, local nonprofits, school fundraisers — knocking on doors is still one of the most effective ways to reach people. But for homeowners, there's never been a clean, simple way to say “not interested” before the knock happens. You either deal with it door by door, or you don't deal with it at all.
We kept asking ourselves: phones have a Do Not Call Registry. Email has spam filters and unsubscribe links. Why doesn't your front door have anything?
So we built NoKnock.
How it works, in plain terms
Homeowners register for free and get a unique QR code for their door — printable instantly, or available as a professional weatherproof decal mailed to your home. It's a clear, visible signal — no confrontation required. On the other side, canvassing organizations get a simple way to check the registry before they knock, so they're not wasting time, gas, and goodwill on doors that were never going to open for them anyway.
Scanned or tapped, that QR code opens the simple public page, always a clear “Do Not Knock.” Canvassers using the NoKnock app see one of three results depending on their industry and your preferences:

Registered & blocked

Outside acceptable hours

Clear to knock
It's not about shutting doors. It's about making sure the doors that do open are the ones where someone's actually willing to listen.
Bring your block, earn the weatherproof decal
A canvasser who skips one house still works the street. A street that's mostly registered is the one they stop walking — which is why your dashboard comes with an invite link to share with neighbors.
When three neighbors near you register through it and each stays registered a couple of weeks, we mail you the outdoor-rated weatherproof decal free — an upgrade on the one you print at home, or a spare for a side door. There's no deadline and nothing expires. You'll see how many neighbors have joined, never which ones.
Nothing about your protection depends on it. Registering, setting your preferences, reporting a knock and printing a decal are free for everyone, whether you ever share a link or not.
